Climate Change Emergency Declaration
GP Surgery @ Acton Gardens – Climate Commitment
At GP Surgery @ Acton Gardens, we recognise that climate change is a global health emergency. The climate crisis poses a serious and growing threat to the health and wellbeing of our patients, our staff, and our wider community — both now and for future generations.
As a healthcare organisation, we have a responsibility not only to treat illness, but also to protect and promote health by addressing the environmental factors that affect it. Poor air quality, extreme weather events, rising inequality and food insecurity all have direct impacts on physical and mental health.
By making this declaration, we formally acknowledge the urgency of climate action and commit to playing our part in reducing our environmental impact, in line with NHS ambitions for a more sustainable healthcare system.
Our commitments
We commit to:
- Reducing our carbon footprint wherever possible through responsible use of energy, water and resources
- Minimising waste, increasing recycling, and reducing single‑use items where safe and appropriate
- Promoting sustainable prescribing and clinical practice, while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety
- Encouraging active travel and sustainable choices for staff, patients and visitors where feasible
- Raising awareness of the links between climate change and health among our team and patient population
- Reviewing and improving our practices over time, recognising that sustainability is an ongoing journey
Working together for health and the future
We understand that meaningful change happens through collective action. We will work with our staff, patients, local partners and the wider NHS to support positive environmental change while continuing to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.
By taking action on climate change, we are investing in a healthier population, a more resilient NHS, and a safer future for generations to come.
This practice declares a Climate Change Emergency and commits to action.
